Here you can find the tasks for 2019.

WRO 2019 was all about the city of the future…

Elementary 2019 (8-12 years)

Introduction

The transportation industry is growing rapidly and is subject to constant change. Every day, modern communication options create new solutions that improve transportation options. In the future, transportation will be largely automated.

Self-driving cars are part of this automation. An autonomous vehicle is able to perceive its surroundings and navigate without a human driver. Automatic control is intended to reduce the risk of accidents, avoid traffic jams and require fewer routes and parking spaces.

The host country of the 2019 WRO World Final, Hungary, has been very active in the development of self-driving cars since 2015. In the near future, a modern test track will be completed there, which will enable the testing of self-driving cars in normal road environments. In Germany, the first test tracks are also under discussion, including in the Ruhr region near Düsseldorf and in Menden / Arnsberg in the Sauerland region.

In the Elementary age group, you build a robot that transports people independently to different locations in the city.

Junior 2019 (13-15 years)

Engineers and developers have long been working to create a healthy living environment, by emitting fewer hazardous emissions and reducing energy consumption . The aim is to reduce the ecological footprint and live in comfort and safety at the same time. This has led to the control of our homes, e.g. switching on heating systems, becoming increasingly automated.

A long development process has resulted in smart home solutions that can control and manage various devices in our homes. There are already intelligent lighting systems that automatically switch lights on and off as required. In the future, autonomous robots will even help us with household chores.

In the Junior age group, you build a robot to replace old lamps with smart (intelligent) lamps. The old lamps must be disposed of correctly, while the new lamps must be placed in the correct location.

Senior 2019 (16-18 years)

Future IT networks will have to face new challenges, such as holographic video conferences, autonomous cars or interactive robots. The aim is to increase data rates and at the same time develop systems that respond flexibly to user requirements without the user having to worry about them. Hardware and software solutions work together to make the intelligent network of the future possible.

Building new networks involves adapting current technologies, developing new devices and expanding wireless transmission methods. Only a fast, stable and secure network can form the basis for smart cities. It is necessary to develop a system that does not require the user to have any IT knowledge. This way, only the advantages and improvements through IT are visible to the users. The host country of the 2019 WRO World Final, Hungary, is the center for the development of 5G, which forms the basis of smart grids. In Germany, the introduction of 5G is currently being prepared with the auctioning of frequencies.

In the Senior age group, you build a robot that modernizes a city’s IT infrastructure by installing new routers and connecting districts with fiber optic cables.
