Since 2023, we have been offering the new Future Innovators category at our competitions. It is made for students aged 8 to 19 years and allows young people with an interest in larger projects to participate in WRO. The season challenge, which is inspired by one of the Goals for Sustainable Development of the United Nations, offers ample room for that.
Teams work on a project of their choice which fits into this annual theme. They come up with ideas how a robot or a robotic solution can help solve a problem in the real world and build and program a prototype.
At the competition, the teams present their projects to a jury. They will have a space of 2m x 2x with at least a wall and a table. The teams can and should be creative with their presentation!
Other than in the classic RoboMission category, which only allows Lego robots, in Future Innovators, teams are free in their choice of hardware. Admitted are Lego, Raspberry Pi, Arduino and others.
Just like in the RoboMission category, teams consist of 2 or 3 students and a cocah — usually a parent or teacher.
