WRO Switzerland congratulates all the teams on their great performance. You have been working towards this moment for almost a year and we are proud of you!
The registration fee per team is now only CHF 50.–. This includes a playing mat per team and one new set with Lego bricks that are needed to build the game objects.
Teams that participate in WRO for the first time will also need an old Lego kit. You can order it directly during the sign-up process, and you will receive an invoice directly from our partner EducaTec.
The tasks for the competition will be released on January 15, 2023.
In this season, there will be exciting tasks that center around the special geographic situation of Panama, this year’s host country, between two oceans.
]]>The Swiss final took place in Hausen AG for the first time this year. In the new multi-purpose hall, 43 teams with a total of 105 participants competed for the title of Swiss champions in their respective age groups and to qualify for the world finals in Dortmund in November.
The competition day was divided into two parts. In the morning, the teams showed what they had prepared over the past few months: The self-constructed robots had to navigate a course and solve a task known in advance. However, the distribution of the objects on the game field was random; the robot had to recognize them and then perform the correct actions. In the afternoon, two and a half hours of fast programming were required: completely new tasks were set on the familiar terrain. In addition to computer skills, good tactics were also important here: Recognizing which tasks were easiest to solve and scoring safe points was helpful here.
While the teams were working on their tasks, the jury for the DesignOvation Award was also on site. In addition to the appearance of the robot, they also paid attention to its functionality, effectiveness and precision, and the way it was programmed also had an influence on the evaluation. Another important factor was teamwork. One robot in the Elementary age group stood out in particular: It had two different pincers like a lobster to be able to grasp different objects; a gear (wheel) like a shark’s teeth, and a tail like a scorpion’s, which they could also use as a tool. The team deservedly won this award for creative robot design for this robot based on the animal world.
The two best teams in each age group qualified for the WRO World Final in Dortmund.

We were then allowed to press the signal at the robot start and the referee stopped the time. After all, a run was only allowed to last a maximum of 2 minutes.
The robot scored 42 points, which was a very satisfactory result! We had already collected points in our first run!
After this first run, the robot had to be parked again and lunch was served. Then it was back to work: we had another construction phase, this time lasting just 60 minutes, to optimize our program. We programmed our robot to be able to stop on the starting field again at the end and dared to tackle the surprise task.
After two more scoring runs and construction phases, we were already facing the final scoring round. We had scored points in two out of three rounds so far, so it was no longer so risky. Our robot couldn’t really collect any more points than it already had, so it didn’t matter if we collected any points at all. But of course we still hoped that we would score more points than in the first rounds. We actually managed to score points again, but it was exactly the same as our second best run, so unfortunately it didn’t make any difference.
After the last race, we had to clean everything up while the organization team compiled the rankings. Then the ranking was announced and we were very surprised to come third! That made me very happy!
In the evening we were very exhausted and glad that we could now relax at home. I thought it was very nice that only relatively few teams from one age group took part at this location, so it wasn’t too crowded. The day was very exciting and we learned a lot both on the day itself and during the preparations.
]]>Thanks for the Lego box and the mat. When we first opened the Lego box, it had lots of cool things and special items.
We practiced for 3 hours a day before the competition. We think that the other robots looked very difficult. We had understood and achieved a lot, we did our best.
We learned a lot and we are sure that we will learn something again next time. The competition was a lot of fun and the cookies were very tasty…

]]>A total of 231 children and young people in 101 teams took part in the 7 WRO regional competitions on May 7 and 14 in the category RoboMission participated. For the first time we were able to hold a competition in French-speaking Switzerland in Yverdon – Merci beaucoup et félicitations! Other competitions were held in Brugg-Windisch, Burgdorf, Flawil, Muttenz, Rotkreuz and Winterthur. WRO CH would like to thank all the local OCs who put their heart and soul into organizing these events.
While the teams were still tinkering with their robots and trying out how they could score a few more points, many helpers were working in front of and behind the scenes to ensure that the competitions could take place. We would like to thank all those who worked as referees, in the scoring offices or in other roles. Without you, the regional competitions could not take place!

*) The first-placed teams from each regional competition qualify directly. Other teams are qualified according to the overall ranking. As a general rule, only teams that have scored points can take part in the Swiss final.
We congratulate all participants on taking part in the competition. Even if not all teams achieved as much as they would have liked, everyone acquired skills on this long day that will have a lasting effect: Sticking with it, even when it’s tedious, dealing with a task without support from the coaches, frustration tolerance. And for some teams, a dream has come true: Winning a medal and qualifying for the Swiss Championships. You should be proud of your achievements!
A final test is currently underway. Then we take the robot apart and pack everything neatly for tomorrow. This leaves time to wind down and recharge your batteries.
