Swiss Finals 2022 in Hausen AG https://wro.swiss/en/swiss-finals-2022-in-hausen-ag-new/ Sat, 25 Jun 2022 17:27:06 +0000 https://wro.swiss/swiss-finals-2022-in-hausen-ag-new/

The Swiss final took place in Hausen AG for the first time this year. In the new multi-purpose hall, 43 teams with a total of 105 participants competed for the title of Swiss champions in their respective age groups and to qualify for the world finals in Dortmund in November.

The competition day was divided into two parts. In the morning, the teams showed what they had prepared over the past few months: The self-constructed robots had to navigate a course and solve a task known in advance. However, the distribution of the objects on the game field was random; the robot had to recognize them and then perform the correct actions. In the afternoon, two and a half hours of fast programming were required: completely new tasks were set on the familiar terrain. In addition to computer skills, good tactics were also important here: Recognizing which tasks were easiest to solve and scoring safe points was helpful here.

The design is also important

While the teams were working on their tasks, the jury for the DesignOvation Award was also on site. In addition to the appearance of the robot, they also paid attention to its functionality, effectiveness and precision, and the way it was programmed also had an influence on the evaluation. Another important factor was teamwork. One robot in the Elementary age group stood out in particular: It had two different pincers like a lobster to be able to grasp different objects; a gear (wheel) like a shark’s teeth, and a tail like a scorpion’s, which they could also use as a tool. The team deservedly won this award for creative robot design for this robot based on the animal world.

Regional competitions 2022 – Results https://wro.swiss/en/regional-competitions-2022-results/ Sat, 14 May 2022 18:57:09 +0000 https://wro.swiss/regional-competitions-2022-results/

A total of 231 children and young people in 101 teams took part in the 7 WRO regional competitions on May 7 and 14 in the category RoboMission participated. For the first time we were able to hold a competition in French-speaking Switzerland in Yverdon – Merci beaucoup et félicitations! Other competitions were held in Brugg-Windisch, Burgdorf, Flawil, Muttenz, Rotkreuz and Winterthur. WRO CH would like to thank all the local OCs who put their heart and soul into organizing these events.

While the teams were still tinkering with their robots and trying out how they could score a few more points, many helpers were working in front of and behind the scenes to ensure that the competitions could take place. We would like to thank all those who worked as referees, in the scoring offices or in other roles. Without you, the regional competitions could not take place!

Overall rankings Regios 2022

We congratulate all participants on taking part in the competition. Even if not all teams achieved as much as they would have liked, everyone acquired skills on this long day that will have a lasting effect: Sticking with it, even when it’s tedious, dealing with a task without support from the coaches, frustration tolerance. And for some teams, a dream has come true: Winning a medal and qualifying for the Swiss Championships. You should be proud of your achievements!
